Product Marketing at Help Scout

Standing out in a crowded market is hard! You have to know your audience, speak their language, and sometimes, take creative risks to differentiate your product.

So here’s my attempt to make Help Scout stand out as a great company that you’d want to work for!

On top of working remotely(this is me in my living room), a strong brand, and 10,000 happy paying customers, you’d also be joining a company that seriously cares about things like diversity and inclusion (our leadership team is 67% women) and balancing profit with purpose (we earned our B-Corporation certification earlier this year).

We’re building a product marketing team to own market research, product positioning and messaging, competitive intelligence, sales enablement, and feature launches. And when I say “own”, that isn’t secret code for “do it all yourself”. You’d be joining awesome teammates who can’t wait to collaborate with you, and we’re committed to hiring more.

Help Scout isn’t your average startup—we’ve been going strong for more than 8 years. And while every company says that their culture is different, our approach to sales and marketing is truly refreshing. We’re seeking long-term, sustainable results over short-term tactics and “growth hacks.”

Love the approach to hiring! I have a few suggestions for feedback, but to start I'd suggest to add background music. Other videos on Help Scout have pleasant background music that would've been a plus for this one too :). Marketing is my dream job and Help Scout looks like a great culture fit. I'll be applying!

I am drawn to both your commitment to inclusion and to your clear vision of the product marketing team. I've never seen another company do a video like this—it feels to me like evidence of that culture you describe.

Love the video in general. While inclusion and diversity are all the rage in terms of buzzwords in tech today...honestly it is a turn off to me when it is pushed so heavy handed. I want to work at a company that hires the best people for the right position period. End of story. 

Who cares if they are black, white, purple, gay, straight, man, woman, trans. A company that has to signal this out to me is a red flag honestly.

Thanks for talking about the company culture in addition to the role's responsibilities. The role's responsibilities shows me the skills needed for the position, and the culture shows me how the company interacts with others. It gives me a big picture view and a zoomed-in view of the company. I applaud Help Scout for being a B Corporation and for valuing diversity. You are leading by example!

This is definitely a great way to not only stand out in a crowded job space but also a really effective way to communicate what you are looking for in a candidate. You conveyed 3 times more information in this short, fun video than you would normally be able to jam into the top paragraph of a job description.  My product marketing approach is rooted in that kind of storytelling, so I already feel a kinship and will most definitely be submitting an application.  Kudos for breaking the monotony of my current job search.

Your video was an excellent example of an elevated online experience which I appreciate. Created to provide valuable content and feedback to both consumer and company 👏 One suggestion would be to provide information on what your product does. I was easily able to figure this out by going to, but it wasn't directly clear in either the job posting or the video. Other than that, your pitch, and the company's product and mission are inspiring to the field.

This is a really fantastic approach to the candidate search! Very rarely are prospective applicants told the name of the hiring manager, let alone given a chance to see them in such an approachable format. It's nice to be shown proof of what it is you say about yourselves in a job listing: that you're unique and refreshing. The video was very well done, and the pacing was perfect. Love the balanced leadership team!  What shines in this video is that it's clear that employees are empowered to speak about what matters to them. I love your fresh approach and openness in your video to invite potential candidates into your living room & Help Scout organization, and introduce us to your mission, vision, purpose and company culture.
I have had a home office for a couple of decades and your organization is one that I would be very proud to represent. I bring my core principals of  communications, collaboration, and encouragement to everything I do.
It is refreshing to hear that Help Scout values longterm, sustainable results - it fits with my style that focuses on outcomes over outputs in a fast paced, ever changing world - goals matter more than the roadmap. And, as a natural prioritizer, I have great instincts when it comes to what matters, and have made tough but smart trade-offs. Absolutely loved this video! The "living room" background denotes the atmosphere that you are defining here, and I really appreciate that! I believe that there is a belief that people who work remotely or at home have find it challenging to stay focused. For me, working remotely is more empowering and allows my creativity to blossom. 

It would be an absolute pleasure for me to be associated with this company, and I believe that I would be a great fit for this position! I will be definitely be applying.

Great video. It concisely explained what differentiates you and also gave a clear picture (literally!) of the company culture and how the role fits into the rest of the company. 

I also appreciated the transcript underneath the video -- it speaks to the inclusivity you mentioned.
